WWE Raw: Truth is technical difficulties suck

I have to admit that I have been a big R-Truth fan since he turned heel about a month ago. His mic work has been awesome, and his crazy delusional character has been the best part of WWE programming in awhile.

So imagine how happy I was that Raw Monday night opened with R-Truth standing amongst the WWE Universe in attendance at a souvenier stand.

Problem was that the audio was not audible for a whole 15 minutes and all you could see was Truth going bezerk and throwing merchandise that included t-shirts, programs, and even souvenier cups that had John Cena images on them. Truth proceeded to make his way to the arena after verbally jousting with a father and his son who wearing Cena merchandise. Cena came to the ring and asked what was wrong with R-Truth, and Truth played the conspiracy card about being held down by Cena and management and not getting a WWE Championship match.

The anonymous Raw GM made the main event Cena/Truth and Truth won by countout after goading Cena into the audience and making it into the ring by the count of 10. After the match Truth went into the audience, took a cup of water from the father from earlier in the show, and embarrassed him in front of his son. That got great heat from the crowd.

I imagine based on Truth's countout victory over Cena that the main event at Capitol Punishment will be Cena vs Truth for the WWE Championship. I would personally wait and continue to build Truth as a threat and have Cena/Truth at Summerslam and instead have Cena vs CM Punk at Capitol Punishment. It would be more money if Truth was built more as a threat, but hey I don't book for WWE.

Other thoughts on Monday's show:

Punk and Rey Mysterio had an great match that concluded with Punk avoiding a hurricarana with a kick to the back of Mysterio's head. Based on the victory Punk would be credibe right now to challenge Cena for the championship if they could build him up more these next few weeks leading up to the ppv.

In a follow-up from her breakdown last week, Kharma annoucned to the crowd that she was pregnant and would be gone for one year. She said she had two dreams. To be a WWE Superstar, and like most girls and women dream, to be a mother. The Bellas came down and made derogative fat jokes towards her. After Kharma proceeded to scare them, she announced that if they are there one year from now, she would come after them. I liked that WWE built a ready made feud for her upon her return, but did not like that they kinda destroyed the mystique she had of not talking and kicking butt. She came off too big (no pun intended) a sympathetic figure, but we will see how it plays out.

Alex Riley showed fire in his interview with Michael Cole. Cole was back to his usual heel self and was trying to make Riley apologize to Miz for being ungrateful. Riley was ready to beat Cole up when Miz came from behind and ambushed him. Riley made a comeback but Miz ran away. I thought Riley had star qualities about him, but we will see how he steps his game up in a feud with Miz.

The Evan Bourne-Jack Swagger match was good, but Swagger losing was a bad idea. I think he has potential as a bad monster heel if WWE can go all the way with him.

The Kofi Kingston-Dolph Ziggler match was good, but I felt i've seen this feud too many times already when they both were on Smackdown.

Alberto Del Rio cut a great heel promo saying that the Big Show getting run over last week was an accident, and Del Rio had a funny line when he said that he would bill Show the damages to his car.

I guess i'm not the only one who think those Obama satire interviews promoting Capitol Punishment are lame.

Can they please give Zack Ryder a push already?

Remembering Macho Man Randy Savage

"OHHH YEAAHHHH...CAN YOU DIG IT."

It is a catch phrase that will be engraved into wrestling laurels for generations.

When I heard that Macho Man Randy Savage died yesterday in a car accident I was devastated. I know some people reading this will ask why I am sad over a wrestler's death.

Well i'll tell you that Savage was one of my favorite wrestlers growing up.

When I first started watching wrestling Savage, along with Hulk Hogan, captured my imagination and made me fall in love with a genre that I still love to this day.

My favorite Randy Savage memory wasn't his classic Wrestlemania 3 Intercontinental Title Match with Ricky Steamboat as it is most people's favorite. However, it was his feud with Jake The Snake Roberts that was my most memorable.

On an episode of WWF Superstars Savage came to the rescue of an enhancement wrestler that Roberts beat. Roberts was about to put his snake Damien on him until Savage had enough and came to his aid.

Savage turned his back for a moment to attend to the wrestler for Roberts to blindside him. He proceeded to tie Savage to the ropes and, which is one of the most famous moments in WWE history, sicced Damien onto Savage's arm and proceeded to bite his flesh.

It turned out to be one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history as Savage was reinstated back to wrestling after losing a retirement match to Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 7.

I was actually in attendance when they battled at Tuesday in Texas in 1991. That was the event where Roberts infamously hit Savage's wife at the time Elizabeth.

I have met many wrestlers in my lifetime, but sometimes I forget that I met Savage back in 1994 when he was part of WCW at the old Kids Fair event they used to have at the Alamodone. The reason I forget is because I always thought of him as a WWE guy, and I have met more wrestlers who were in WWE than WCW.

At the time San Antonio was a WWE town and we never got WCW events.

I remember asking him when was WCW coming to town, and in that famous gravely voice, he said "I don't know man you're gonna have to ask my agent." At least that's what I remember he told me.

Thinking about it today I am honored and priviliged that I met one of my favorites back when I was a kid.

It is more sad that myself and other fans will never get the opportunity to see Savage accept his WWE Hall of Fame induction while alive.

I believe he will be inducted into the hall posthumously next year at Wrestlemania 28.

Savage joins a long list of other legends that were childhood favorites of mine that have passed way before their time.

Savage, real name Randy Poffo, is survived by his wife Lynn and was only 58 years old. My condolonces and prayers are with his family.

He definitely was the cream of the crop. OHHH YEAAAHHHH.

RIP Macho Man Randy Savage

Raw: Cena-Rock set for...one year from now

Anticipation was built throughout Raw Monday night for the showdown between The Rock and John Cena. There was a sense throughout the show that something MAJOR was going to go down.

Major and unprecedented to boot is how I would categorize their confrontation. John Cena challenged Rock to a match, but "The Great One" said that a match of this magnitude could only happen on "the grandest stage of them all." It can only happen at Wrestlemania 28.

A main event set for Wrestlemania set one year ahead is awesome, and a dream match of Cena-Rock deserves all the build-up, but the challenge WWE has will be how they can keep the buzz on this match for a whole year without fans getting nauseous.

It will be interesting what involvement both these charasmatic superstars have with eachother going forward til April 1, 2012.

Other thoughts on the show:

Triple H cut a great promo about his epic match with Undertaker on Sunday. He said that he hit Taker harder than he has hit anybody in his life, but Taker found a way to prevail in the end. "The Game" didn't believe that it was Taker's last match, and said that when he comes back, he will be waiting for him. Like Cena-Rock for Mania 28, the seeds were planted for a rematch for next year's Wrestlemania.

The debut of Sin Cara was not bad, as the masked luchador gave us a glimpse of what the WWE Universe has to look forward to. He came to the aid of Daniel Bryan after Bryan lost his match to Sheamus. He proceeded to hurricarana Sheamus over the top rope and then did a high body splash onto the U.S. Champ. It seems Cara is getting pushed right out of the gate with a U.S. Title program against Sheamus. It will be interesting to see how their two styles mesh.

I was befuddled by Sheamus' red, white, and blue gear eventhough he is Irish, but I guess it's just to play up he's the champion of the United States.

The Randy Orton/Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk/Cody Rhodes tag team match was a good 20 minute bout. I'm glad that the Orton/Punk feud will be continue.

Alberto Del Rio and Evan Bourne had a nice five minute matchup that was designed to get Del Rio back on track after losing his championship match against Edge at Mania. I'm curious to see how he goes forward.

It was awesome WWE teased Jim Ross being back in the announce booth full-time. After Jerry Lawler's match with Jack Swagger, Cole threw BBQ sauce onto JR and JR chased him up the ramp, albeit in slow motion. Cole's voice was heard after Raw came back from commercial, and I could imagine the angry venom fans felt realizing JR was not back after all. I have a feeling a tag team match will be set up at Extreme Rules between Jerry Lawler/Jim Ross vs Michael Cole/Jack Swagger.

Wrestlemania XXVII thoughts

Contrary to what everyone thought about this year's Wrestlemania, I thought it was an entertaining show. Were there some things on the show that could have gone better, yes possibly, but all in all I was satisfied with the presentation WWE gave last night and every match was good. Here are my thoughts on each match

John Cena vs WWE Champion The Miz- The Miz retained his championship after a 15-minute bout with Cena after Rock restarted the match when the bout was originally called a draw with both men not answering the 10 count. This wasn't the greatest of Wrestlemania main events, but it was decent. Everybody was waiting for the Rock to come out, and I thought his involvement in the match was anti-climatic. Rock costs Cena the match by giving him the Rock Bottom and Miz capitalizing with the pin just the way I predicited it. I can't wait to see what the fallout is tonight on Raw and how WWE builds to an eventual Cena-Rock match.

Undertaker vs Triple H- This match was the best match on the show. These two future hall of famers put on a 30-minute classic that had fans actually thinking the streak was going to end. I cringed when Triple H delivered the chair shot to Taker's cranium. "The Dead Man" got the win via "The Hell's Gate" and while this match wasn't Taker/Michaels, when I think of top 5 Taker Wrestlemania matches, this one ranks 3rd behind the two matches with HBK. For these two warriors ages, they told a hell of a story and now i'm curious to see which direction they both go in the coming months

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs Alberto Del Rio- I was aghast that this match was put first, but I understand that they needed a match that would set the tone for the rest of the card. They battled for 15 minutes before Edge defeated Del Rio with the Spear. I thought WWE would put the belt on Del Rio, but i'm guessing that they don't want to hot push him right away. The match was good but was surprised that there was no Christian heel turn.

Randy Orton vs CM Punk- This match was the 2nd best match on the show. It went on for nearly 20 minutes, and it was a nice old school bout where it was just two competitors beating the snot out of eachother. Punk's facials throughout the match, and in my opinion, he is the best heel in wrestling right now. Orton won with a mid-air RKO after Punk came down from the top rope. Would love to see this feud extended.

Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole- This grudge match didn't have the heat that I thought it would with the match dragging when Cole on offense for the majority of the match. King won the match after applying the ankle lock on Cole. After the match, the anonymous Raw GM chimed and reversed the decision because of Referee Stone Cold Steve Austin's bias involvement in the match. I agree with the WWE booking Cole to have the last laugh, and I will tell you why. In wrestling, a heel, especially heel managers, never gets their full comeuppance. If Lawler just beat the hell out of Cole throughout the match, fans would not pay to see him get it again because the comeuppance was already delivered. With Cole getting the last laugh, it will leave fans salivating for King to get his hands on him again or perhaps a superstar giving him his just desserts if the company decides to make Cole a full-time manager.

Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes- I was happy Rhodes won the match, as it was the right decision going forward. This match was a good 10 minutes, and Rhodes will now hopefully get a bigger push going forward. Thought Rey Mysterio's Captain America outfit was awesome.

Corre vs Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston, and Santino Marella- Match only lasted 90 seconds after Show gave the KO to Heath Slater. It was a disappointing debut for the Corre, as they should have won the match because it would elevate them more into serious players in the WWE. It was also a disappointing Wrestlemania debut for Wade Barrett who a couple of months ago was the top heel in the company and feuding with John Cena.

John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki vs Lay-Cool and Dolph Ziggler. Disappointed that Morrison and Ziggler didn't have enough time to shine in this match and show what they could do. The match served its purpose by having Snooki get the win with a mini-moonsault over Michelle McCool. She was decent in the match.

Side notes- I was in a good mood for the majority of the show til I found out that U.S. Champion Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan was bumped into the dark match before the show. I was looking forward to that match and wanted to see how Bryan would perfom on the big stage after competing for many years in Ring of Honor and being labeled the "best wrestler not to be in WWE or TNA" before he signed last year. The Sheamus/Bryan match was turned into a lumberjack match and then a battle royal after the lumberjacks brawled. Khali won the battle royal by elminating Sheamus. I'm shaking my head that Sheamus and Bryan got relegated to the pre-show in favor of useless vignettes involving Snoop Dogg, Mae Young, and Pee Wee Herman.

The Rock did a good job as host of Wrestlemania, but I said GOOD not Great. Most of his participation throughout the show was serviceable and not as entertaining as I would expect coming from "The Great One."

Wrestlemania predictions

Here are my predictions for every match on the pay-per-view Sunday John Cena vs WWE Champion The Miz- I woulda said a couple weeks of ago that Cena would regain the WWE championship almost a year after losing it. However, The Rock's involvement in the match has me wondering. Miz had gotten the better of Cena over the past couple weeks, so it was a natural lock for Cena to have his moment at Wrestlemania. With the tension between Cena and Rock brewing from Monday til tonight, I am betting that a ref bump happens and Rock gives Cena a just receipt in the form of a Rock Bottom after Cena gave him the Attitude Adjustment on Monday. Miz will proceed to knock Rock outta the ring and then hit Cena with the Skull Crushing Finale and retain the WWE Championship. Seeds will be planted for an eventual Cena-Rock showdown either at Summerslam this year or Wrestlemania 28 in Miami. Undertaker vs Triple H- WWE did a great job planting seeds of doubt in fans minds about the Undertaker finally losing at Wrestlemania. However, I don't see that happening and Taker will be 19-o. The kicker will be how will Shawn Michaels get involved. I see him superkicking Undertaker first then superkicking his best friend Triple H selling conflict that he wants revenge on Taker for ending his career last year but not wanting to see his best friend end the streak when he couldn't. This match should be great but not Taker-Michaels great. World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs Alberto Del Rio- This will be Del Rio's time to shine. WWE has big plans for him, and I see them giving the championship to Del Rio to set up potential challengers leading into the summer with rematches against Edge, a title program with his old nemesis Rey Mysterio, and possibly the Undertaker. I see Christian costing his pal Edge the championship to lead to a big program between the two for the next few months. Randy Orton vs CM Punk- Punk got the better of Orton on Monday, so I see "The Viper" overcoming an injured ankle and getting his comeuppance against Punk. I wouldn't be surprised if Punk had something up his sleeve in the form of a new Nexus member in his corner. This match has the potential to steal the show if given the time allowed. Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole- Lawler gets the win plain and simple. Fans have been waiting for Cole to get his just desserts and when Lawler gets that first punch in the fans in the Georgia Dome will explode. Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes- Mysterio will get the win here, but I think Cody should get the win, as it will legitimize him as a potential main event player in the coming year, and a lost to Mysterio wouldn't hurt in the least. Another show-stealer if given the time. Corre vs Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella, and Kofi Kingston- Kingston is a last minute replacement for Vladamir Kozlov after WWE shot an injury angle over the weekend at WWE Axxess where the Corre injured Kozlov. I see the young Corre getting the win here with Barrett possibly going over Kane or even Big Show, as WWE sees big things in Barrett. Lay-Cool and Dolph Ziggler vs Snooki, Trish Stratus, and John Morrison. The babyfaces go over in this one, as I don't see WWE bringing Snooki in only for her to lose. This match should be a great showcase of Ziggler and Morrison's talent, and I believe they will show why there are main event players for years to come in this match with their athleticism. U.S. Champion Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan- Another potential show stealer. It will be interesting how they mesh given the time they are allotted. Sheamus retains the US championship after a hard fought match.

The Attitude Adjustment: Raw: Hot-show on the way to Hot-lanta

Raw: Hot-show on the way to Hot-lanta

WWE couldn't have done a better job promoting Wrestlemania than it did with it's go-home edition of Raw. The WWE Universe finally got to witness the long-awaited confrontation between John Cena and The Rock (along with The Miz) and a three-way money promo between The Undertaker, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels. Everybody is talking about the latter promo being the highlight of the show, but I will be in the minority and say that the highlight was the Cena-Rock confrontation for a couple of reasons. One because it was the first time these two greats have been in the ring face to face, therefore, making it historic and epic, and the other because you could sense legitimate tension between the two. Cena came out and wanted to know why the Rock why he left WWE in the first place before saying it was great he was back because he lived for moments like this. Cena figured the reason Rock always had a problem with him because of philosophy: Rock is the cool guy on campus and Cena is the role model for children. He told the Rock he would never change his style for anyone and excepted that there would always be detractors and followers. As the two megastars were about to come to blows finally, The Miz and Alex Riley interrupted and a 2-on-1 brawl broke out between Miz/Riley and the Rock. "The Great One" delivered his signature People's Elbow onto Miz and Cena came back to the ring and delivered an Attitude Adjustment to the Rock. I would have preferred if the actual contact between Rock, Cena, and Miz took place at Wrestlemania because people who were on the fence on ordering the pay-per-view would have been more enticed to see the inevitable showdown. We will see how it all plays out on Sunday. Other thoughts on Monday's show. The promo between HHH, Taker, and Michaels was a money program, and was classic wrestling 101 on how to sell an angle, pay-per-view, etc. Taker and HHH were staring eachother down to sell their match at Mania' when Michaels came down to make things interesting. Michaels proceeded to ask "The Game" what makes him think he could do what he couldn't do the past two years. HHH told Michaels that he simply got soft and being "Mr Wrestlemania" was more important thang winning. Taker said that Michaels doesn't walk around with the same arrogance that he used to and will go into the WWE Hall of Fame with regrets. Michaels was about to deliver Sweet Chin Music to Taker, but he caught his foot and was about to chokeslam him when HHH pulled the two of em apart and stared down Taker one more time. HHH asked HBK to tell Taker why he will the streak at Wrestlemania, but there was silence. Michaels left the ring and told HHH "sorry...you can't win." The once confident "Game" now didn't look so confident about ending the streak, and I liked Taker's smile and tipping of the hat to solidify that the momentum is on his side. A match that had, in my opinion, a so-so build-up now had my interest and am looking forward to seeing what, if any, involvement Michaels has in their match on Sunday. CM Punk delivered another brilliant promo on Randy Orton to sell their match on Sunday. He reiterated that he's all about himself and doesn't care about his followers in the New Nexus or the people in his hometown of Chicago who were in attendance on Monday night. Orton came down and got the better of Punk and was poised to deliver a punt to the head before his injured ankle gave out on him. Punk being the opportunist that he is capitalized and gave the "Viper" the Go To Sleep. I have always said that Punk reminds me of Jake "The Snake" Roberts when it comes to being a dark, sadistic heel and cutting good promos. The Daniel Bryan/John Morrison vs Sheamus/Dolph Ziggler tag team match was good while it lasted and pushed each competitor's respective Wrestlemania matches. I thought Vickie Guerrero doing Morrison's slow-mo entrance was kinda funny. The Trish Stratus/Snookie and Lay-Cool brawl was what it was to hype up their match on Sunday. Was it me or did Snooki look plastered through the whole segment? Jerry Lawler showed his vicious side against Jack Swagger after being humiliated by Swagger and Michael Cole over the past few weeks. Lawler went after Cole after destroying Swagger with a steel chair only for Cole to retreat to the Cole Mine. Lawler/Cole is the match other than the WWE Championship that i'm most looking forward to. People want to see him get destroyed, and I hope after Mania, he gets moved into a manager's role as he is the kinda personality that can get heat on whoever he is associated with. Kane doing the trombone dance with Santino Marella, Vladamir Kozlov, and Big Show was funny. Kane is back to being a loveable monster only a couple of months after being world champion and beating Undertaker on three straight pay-per-views. Talk about a lunge from the top to the bottom!! It was announced that Kane, Show, Marella, and Kozlov would face the Corre at Wrestlemania. That should be a decent filler match. Big ups to the WWE for finally putting the Road Warriors into the WWE Hall of Fame. To say it's overdue is a a big understatement. They were the greatest tag team of all time, and it will be great to see them get their due, along with their manager Paul Ellering, during Wrestlemania weekend.
